A weekend festival of audiovisual performing arts at Rich Mix to commemorate the 10-year anniversary of Crux events.

The first-ever Crux festival is taking place 13-14 April 2024 at Rich Mix, in the cultural heart of east-London, to commemorate the 10-year anniversary of Crux events. The diverse programme features an array of audiovisual performances each evening from emerging artists as well as more established names. During the day there are talks, participatory workshops and opportunities to get involved with the open-mic-style electronic-music performance slots or Sunday jam session.

Highlights from the performance roster include audiovisual veterans The Light Surgeons, who will do a live performance of their recent work Atemporal 2.0. There’s a new visceral and uncompromising show from Nottingham-based artist AJA. International guest Waterflower from Latvia brings her avant-pop AV show to London. Elsewhere on the programme, Halina Rice takes a break from her sell-out live shows to deliver a talk on the hot-topic of immersive audio.

The programme contains a diverse set of electronic music and video artists from the UK and Europe. Many of the sets are fully audiovisual in nature – with an integrated meshing of sound and light – and some are accompanied by the regular VJs from the Crux team. The full programme, complete with bios, links and previews, is available on the Crux Festival website at cruxfestival.com

Two rooms upstairs at the Rich Mix arts centre forms the main hub of the festival. One space is a seated auditorium for talks and performances whereas the other is a mixed-used space that also houses stalls and a chance to network. The Saturday night features a late finish – with a high-energy afterparty in the street-level gig space.

Tickets are affordably priced, with the best value being a full weekend ticket. In an effort to make the event more accessible there are cheaper tickets for various parts of the festival on their own. The festival is being co-produced with the Rich Mix venue and has been made possible through a Project Grant generously provided by Arts Council England.

Crux is an ongoing series of events in the capital and can be followed on Instagram, YouTube and Facebook.
