La Festa di Roma 2019, on December 31st, 2018 and January 1st, 2019, is promoted by Roma Capitale – Assessorato alla Crescita culturale with the support of the Dipartimento Attività Culturali and the collaboration of the cultural institutions of the city. An extraordinary event to which the Administration with its cultural institutions has been working for a year to offer an absolutely unique experience: for a whole day the heart of the Eternal City, a pedestrian area, will turn into a dreamlike landscape with shows, performances, art installations, music, video projections and much more inspired by a common theme: the Moon to which the city of Rome pays homage on the 50th anniversary of the first mon landing. Our natural satellite and its landing, the conquest of space, the dream of being able to travel in the cosmos, fifty years after that first foot resting on its craters, continues to be a starting point and a symbol of our fantasies, of another dimension and, in a wider sense, the emblem of the absence of gravity, lightness and romanticism.

Flyer togheter with FLxER, LPM Live Performers Meeting , Live Cinema Festival and Fotonica Festival brings there 3 installations:
1) Museum of the Moonby Luke Jerram [UK]
Museum of the Moon, the new project by the English artist Luke Jerram. With a diameter of 7 meters, the object reproduces a detailed image of the moon, a 120 dpi photo owned by NASA. With a scale of about 1:500,000, every inch of this spherical sculpture illuminated from the inside represents 5 km of the lunar surface. The installation is a fusion of lunar images, moonlight and a sound composition created by composer Dan Jones. A man of about 15 meters high points from below the big moon of Jerram: it is the artwork of the famous Australian land-artist Amanda Parer who, with her extra-large sculptures, has won international attention winning numerous awards for her large installations and landscape.

2) Photon by Koros Design [HU]

3) ONNPeople by Ipologica & FLxER

The journey will start at 21.00 on December 31st at the Circus Maximus designed as a large square, in which to await the arrival of the new year surrounded by a show of lights, sounds, acrobatic performances, images and fireworks. The evening will be opened by the Piccola Orchestra di Tor Pignattara, with a concert designed for the event and performed by 20 boys under 18 years of age whose parents come from 14 different countries of the world (Italy, Poland, Egypt, Senegal, Eritrea, Tunisia, Nigeria, Cuba, Argentina, Colombia, Philippines, Bangladesh, China, Guatemala), for a single large orchestra made of “new Italians” conducted by Pino Pecorelli.

The evening continues with the performance of the Kitonb, a popular Roman company that, following a well-deserved international success, returns to perform in the city after over 10 years. They will present the performance Carillon, Il volo del tempo, a great show in which urban theatre is played out between the earth and the sky, with an innovative setting in which spectacular moving stage cars, gigantic flying scenographies maneuvered by hydraulic cranes and choreographic actions create a three-dimensional show that will embrace the audience at 360°.

In addition, they will give life to an Ode to the moon, an event specifically created for La Festa di Roma dedicated to the anniversary of man’s journey to Earth’s closest natural satellite, a performance that will be repeated from time to time during the evening. An ensemble led by Vinicio Capossela will perform in a concert of words and music titled Vinicio Capossela in difesa della Luna that will amaze the audience with a tribute to the artist Guido Ceronetti, who died a few months ago. After the midnight toast there will be a fireworks display presented by Acea, which will be followed by Achille Lauro’s dj set and live performance. The popular artist and his crew will make everyone dance at the Circus Maximus.

The party will continue until 3AM with the DJs of Dimensione Suono Roma, media partner of the event, whose music will punctuate the entire evening. The dawn of the new year will be celebrated at the Giardino degli Aranci at the sound of 100 electric guitars, those of the brave musicians who are responding to the invitation of the PMCE – Parco della Musica Contemporanea Ensemble, to perform, from 7AM on January 1st, the music composed by Michele Tadini. There will be four events organized by the Istituzione Biblioteche to start the year in the company of the communities of foreign citizens coming from Africa, Latin America, the Indian subcontinent, the Middle East and the Arab countries. A morning dedicated to art and culture, but above all in the name of mutual knowledge and encounter. Workshops for adults and children, dance and cooking shows, theatrical and musical workshops, readings and tastings of various cuisines in four public libraries of Rome: Cornelia, Laurentina, Goffredo Mameli and Vaccheria Nardi (from 10 to 13).

From the early hours of the afternoon on January 1st, the festivities will move between Piazza dell’Emporio and Lungotevere dei Pierleoni. An event full of poetry and amazement, where zero-gravity dancers and live music of all kinds will accompany the audience along a visionary walk dotted with site specific installations, video-mapping works and light drawings. A game of blue lasers will create airy vaults under which inflatable giants of all shapes and sizes will parade, the road will be transformed into a single long red “carpet”, where marching bands from every continent will perform opening the way to drums parades, fireworks and Catherine wheels. The event features artists such as Le Remue Menage or as Les commandos percu, artists that, during the years, have changed the concept of parade making them surprising, spectacular, engaging like real mobile installations. Here are some of the many events of January 1st: self-propelled sculptures will walk along the path, animated by skilled performers, such as the artists led by Johann le Guillerm in Paris or the Stalkers of Turin. Together with the occasional spectators they will create tunnels, huts and other forms in space, moments of fun and refreshment to be dismantled and rebuilt again. Acrobats will spin around steel coils or hang from large planets that, thanks to the cranes, will simulate planetary revolutions as in the performance of the Gruppo Puja, Spanish artists winners of numerous international awards. Every movie inspired by the moon will re-echo in frames on the walls of the buildings and along the ramparts of the streets. A great work of mapping art will “dialogue” with the Tiber Island, a real site specific project conceived for La Festa di Roma by Philipp Geist, a world-renowned artist in the visual arts scene, an attentive experimenter of expressive forms oriented towards video-art.

Different music ensembles, put together by PMCE – Parco della Musica Contemporanea Ensemble, will perform facing the buildings along the street, they will play a soundtrack to the vertical dances and cableways that will transport dancers from one building to another, animated from the inside with suggestive lights and mapped outside with games of shapes and colors. Numerous helium spheres will punctuate the path as if to recreate cosmogonies and stellar stations, and a large moon will hang from the Giardino degli aranci on the Aventine Hill: it is Museum of the Moon, the new project by the English artist Luke Jerram. Anyone can participate by joining one of the numerous calls launched for some site specific parades, dancing with a maestro like Virgilio Sieni, playing in traditional bands like those of Ambrogio Sparagna or in guitars and bass rallies, singing with the chorus of white voices of Rome’s Opera House, or try their hand at making the first symbol of the Moon State.
