4 days workshop in Italian and also English
Quartz Composer is a visual programming environment designed for creating interactive video and graphics in a real-time environment that can interact with external inputs. It is particularly useful for experimenting with interactive video art and live performances.
This workshop is made to introduce you to the basics of this environment and to help you create your own visual animations and interaction.
U need: your Mac – best if you have QC installed. If u have a midi controller bring it. No programming skills required for this workshop.
To download QC u need to register for free to Apple site, once registered enter the link, and go to download section of XCode.
Inside, check your version of OS first, be sure to download the XCode 4.6 (full package is around 1GB) for OS Mountain Lion/OS Lion. U can download only Graphics Tools for XCode (120mb) x Lion Mountain 10.8/ o Lion 10.7.
1st day QC visual programming environment
Introduction: why and what can be done with QC; Tutorials covering the basics featured:
Overview on QC settings and preferences;
QC Interface: The Editor and Viewer Window;
The Viewer coordinates and the Aspect Ratio menu;
Introduction to Patches and Compositions and how to use them;
Compositions protocols and Repository Examples.
Library and Patch creator.
MACRO patch and levels / The Evaluation Path in QC;
The Patch Inspector / The Input Parameters pane / The Settings pane;
Patch Ports and publication of ports (Inspecting Port values);
Publishing inputs and Use of Input Splitter;
2nd day ANIMATION EFFECTS CONTROL
Creating real-time video graphics and animations; tutorials how to:
Display image or video files; Blending and Masking;
Concept of Time in QC / Patch Time, External Time;
Play a movie file and Control the movie;
Create 2D & 3D animations;
Replicate in Space/Iterator;
Apply Visual effects (+ plugins integration)
Transition, addition, fades, accumulator;
Render in image and why u should use it;
Control your animation with Interpolation, LFO, Random, Noise, Toogle, Conditional, Logic, Watch, Patch Time etc.
3rd day INTERACTIVITY
Creating real-time animations using external inputs and manage their settings
Audio input; Audio Processor; Kineme Audio input plugins;
Midi controls: sliders and knobs working around;
Communication between applications Midi/Audio setting.
Control your animation with Audio Vol and frequency’s;
Control your animation with Keyboard and Midi controller;
4th day INTEGRATION
Plugins integration. Kineme: Kineme Audio Tools, Kineme GL Tools, from v002 Syphon + some effects;
Recording external data through Syphon. Learn how to pipe video between applications using Syphon.
Integration with other applications for live video performance as CoGe and VDMX, Resolume etc.
