Design of interactive video installations and performances
This workshop brings together the experience of 10 years of interactive performance and video installations around the world to offer participants a short course in the design of interactive works based on popular developing environment like openFrameworks and Processing with the use of microphones and depth cameras. The classes build on the skills gained from six years of teaching at the Quasar Institute and the artist residency held at Boston University in 2022.

The goal of the workshop is both to analyze the conceptual and artistic aspects of this type of production and the writing of the code. The workshop can be modulated between a basic and advanced level, depending on the level of expertise of the participants.

BASIC
Requirements: Good computer skills, basic knowledge of geometry, mathematics, and logic.

DAY 1 Basic concepts of interactive art, examples of interactive works and performances / Introduction to Processing.
DAY 2 From space to the body, from the body to the computer / Processing examples.
DAY 3 Live examples of interactive works / Creative coding.
DAY 4 Design of a small interactive sketch.

ADVANCED
Requirements: Basic knowledge of C++ programming, proficient in image and sound editing software.

DAY 1 Basic concepts of interactive art, examples of interactive works and performances / Introduction to openFrameworks.
DAY 2 From space to the body, from the body to the computer / C++ programming for interactive works.
DAY 3 Live examples of interactive works / openFrameworks examples.
DAY 4 Design of a small interactive application.

What is needed

Video projector, marker board, microphone and speakers, a 2x2 meters free space on the floor and a stand for camera.
