Granular Field
This installation depends on mutual listening and collective improvisation. In additional to our performer the audience creates the sound using their smartphones as speakers and input devices. The performers sounds are fragmented and chopped and spread as short clips to the audiences devices. The participants can perform with the received sound snippets using gesture controlled granular synthesis. The perpetual interleaved update of the distributed audio processes creates a diffuse textured echo of the material proposed by the soloist. Granular Field is based on GrainField by Benjamin Matuszewski & Norbert Schnell.
