Experiments in Art Inspired by Neuroscience: MINDCANDY — Perceptual Apparatuses is a long-term artistic research process exploring the relationship between music, moving image and altered perceptual experience.
One of the early questions within this research — how music can evoke vivid internal imagery — led, through a series of artistic experiments, to another: whether visual stimuli themselves can be composed in ways that give rise to perceptual experiences beyond what is physically present.
The infographic maps the experiments, observations and perceptual phenomena that have progressively shaped this research, leading to its current manifestation in MINDCANDY perceptual apparatuses.
Selected elements can be explored through a mobile device, opening additional layers of the research through links, moving-image fragments and visual examples. In this way, the infographic functions not only as a visual overview of the project, but also as an entry point into the processes, references and experiments that have accompanied its development.
