Ø is an audiovisual installation and a performance

The place of Ø has been formed by generative audio and linked to the robot motions that are controlling the intense light sources, so they can animate the hidden qualities of the space. Generative piece also turns into a live performance by the artist. The installation was designed especially for industrial and neglected spaces.

The title shows the unknown qualities of the darkness. The piece carries mystery and absence and it is unburdened by meanings. The concepts of “experience”, “random”, “noise” and “darkness” are intertwined with each other by being “unknown” and became the foundations of Ø. These concepts empty the external meanings and provide an environment for the experiencers to wander in the depths of their minds. As we are going through an immense change in our lives with technology and the pandemic, it is important to notice that whatever happens on the outside, we have the control in ourselves. Humans are driven beings that pursue new knowledge and experience. Artificial creations add value to this path towards the novelty of the unknown. To experience these, one must dare the perils of the unknown. Mystery, sublime thoughts, questions or answers have always been part of human nature. Edmond Burke points out the astonishment we can find in the sublime. Ø is the place that embraces its existence and creates an experience towards the dark realms. In the obscurity of the place and within the absence of meanings, new places are created in the dark rooms of visitors’ minds.
