Translucens
”Translucens” is holographic projection to the water curtain. It is made by using coded procedural visuals, which are later recorded and edited to 7min.30sec. long video.

In creating art I believe that you need to spend a lot of time studying, learning and developing your knowledge, technical abilities and imagination, but in the creation process you should try to let loose and let your intuition take the guidance. I usually start my process from a single word, sentence or conceptual idea and try to form something tangible out of it using free form association and sketching. The word ”Translucent” comes from Latin and it means translucent - something transparent but also tangible.

Translucens converses with theoretical mathematical structures (like tesseract) with really light and concrete biological forms (like water). The narrative of the artwork uses a lot of non-linear storytelling by combining different visuals together creating a Kuleshov effect where the audience constructs the actual storyline in their mind. This technique makes kind of a storyline which resembles the structures of REM-dream.

I have a background in classical music, especially in improvised piano playing and composing, so a lot of my ideas and structures for the new media installations come from there. Especially in this case, Translucent has a structure of an impromptu, which is a composition based on improvised musical materials or sketches, and it has later been composed to musical opus.

In sound design I used several different granular synth and drone sounds. Translucens does not have a melody in a classical sense, but more like a soundscapes that makes a contrast with each other. It creates a lot of mild tensions which are not entirely released in any point and low dominant tone strengthens this effect thru the whole piece. Translucens kind of leaves questions without answers.
